Barsana, the town of Radha Rani, is about 27 km (45–60 minutes) by road from Vrajraj Farms & Retreat at Punchhari, Govardhan, and Nandgaon is about 34 km. Barsana has very little accommodation of its own, and at Lathmar Holi and Radhashtami the town fills far beyond capacity. Most visitors therefore stay outside and come in for the day. Govardhan is the nearest of the main bases.
| To Barsana from | Road | Typical drive |
|---|---|---|
| Vrajraj, Punchhari (Govardhan) | ~27 km | 45–60 min |

| Vrindavan (Banke Bihari) | ~47 km | 1.25–1.5 hr |

Road distances from route mapping. On festival days, allow much longer and expect to walk the last stretch.
What to see in Barsana and Nandgaon
- Shri Ladli ji temple (Shriji temple): Radha Rani's temple crowns the hill above Barsana, reached by a long flight of steps. The view over the plains of Braj is worth the climb.
- Rangeeli Mahal and Kirti Mandir: large modern temples at the foot of the hill, built by Jagadguru Kripalu Parishat.
- Sankari Khor: the narrow pass between Barsana's two hills, linked in Braj stories to Krishna's playful daan leela with the gopis.
- Prem Sarovar: a quiet sacred pond on the road between Barsana and Nandgaon.
- Nand Bhavan, Nandgaon: the temple of Nand Baba, Yashoda, Krishna and Balarama on Nandishwar hill, home of Krishna's childhood in Braj tradition.
Lathmar Holi from Govardhan
Lathmar Holi is Braj's most famous celebration. The women of Barsana playfully "beat" the men of Nandgaon with sticks, and the next day the game moves to Nandgaon. In 2027, Lathmar Holi is expected on 16 March in Barsana and 17 March in Nandgaon, with Laddu Holi at the Shriji temple the day before.
- Leave early. Roads into Barsana are closed to most vehicles on the day. Aim to park at the designated lots by mid-morning and walk in.
- Find a spot before the crowds peak, ideally a rooftop or the edge of a lane rather than the main square.
- Dress for colour: wear old clothes, cover your hair, protect your eyes, and keep your phone in a waterproof pouch.
- With children or elders, go with a local guide or a group, stay at the edges, and leave before the afternoon peak.
- Come back to calm. A hot bath, a simple meal and a quiet night in the fields are the best end to the day.

Radhashtami in Barsana
Radhashtami, Radha Rani's appearance day, falls on 8 September 2027. Devotees climb to the Shriji temple for the early-morning abhishek, and the town is packed from the night before. The same advice applies: stay outside, travel in very early, and expect to walk.
A Barsana and Nandgaon day

- Late morning: Rangeeli Mahal or Kirti Mandir, then Sankari Khor.
- Midday: lunch and a rest; most temples close for a few hours.
- Afternoon: drive 15–20 minutes to Nandgaon for Nand Bhavan, stopping at Prem Sarovar on the way.
